My name is Jess Weihe, but some people call me "AM."
Born and raised in Conejo Valley, after spending time as a reality TV casting producer in Los Angeles, my husband and I moved back to Newbury Park to raise our family, and we have two beautiful daughters who I refer to as AB and AB2 (Anonymous Baby 1 & 2).
I started blogging as a therapeutic way for me to deal with the stresses of becoming a full-time working mom. Early on, my blogging pertained mostly to silly posts in mom groups, but as I've grown as a person, a mother and a community member, I've realized that where my true passion lies is within community volunteer work and within advocating for the equal rights of all people, regardless of race, culture, nationality, gender identity, socioeconomic status and beyond.
My views haven't always been received well in the conservative community of Conejo Valley — a school board trustee threatened my employer, community residents who disagree with my politics have started public hate pages and called my work — but I've learned that there are so many wonderful people that surround us here who truly believe in helping one another and strengthening our community. Connecting with these individuals has given me hope for the world in which my daughters are being raised in, despite the current climate under the Trump administration.
Now, I mainly blog about issues in the community including how everyone can get involved in being a voice on local matters, my observations of the CVUSD board of education, and my nonprofit, Conejo Community Outreach.
