WHY THE CVUSD ELECTION MATTERS

Within two weeks of attending my first CVUSD school board meeting, a friend and close associate of board member Mike Dunn (who is up for re-election) showed up to my work, my blog printed out, and attempted to have me fired. I'd later learn that this individual sent dozens and dozens of emails about me to board members Mike Dunn, John Andersen and Sandee Everett, describing my blogs as "a mental patient's Asperbergers' rant," and demanding that the district cease working with my employer.
As a result of my engagement and interest in the quality of the public school district my daughters would soon be attending, the following has resulted:
1) Mike Dunn emailed my employer and threatened retaliation against him and his company if my employer did not silence me from speaking at public school board meetings.
2) Mike Dunn was censured (a public reprimand — second) but refused to show up at the board meeting during which he was censured.
3) Supporters of the current board majority (comprised of Mike Dunn, Sandee Everett and John Andersen; note: Andersen's term is up in November and he is not re-running, Sandee will be up for re-election in 2020) created multiple, public hate pages (they've written more than 12,000 words in posts) dedicated to a character assassination and defamation campaign against me that they've referred to on their personal pages as: "Truth Psyops."
These "truth" pages have falsely stated that:
They've also taken to posting pictures of me that they take without my knowledge, while then attempting to shame me by posting them on the pages. Not to mention, there have been plenty of times where they've just downright started recording me if they run into me. Imagine being at a community event and having people film your children with malicious intent.
These are supporters of Mike Dunn, Angie Simpson and Amy Chen; and of Ronda Baldwin-Kennedy. They have paid to have fake bots attack my blog page (not that I care... but really?) They've made personal calls to connections at Facebook and had my page suspended. They have made threats against my family, specifying that they are gun owners and that they know where we live, and that we should watch our backs out in public. They, at one point, had a plan to come as a group, and picket my private residence. We had to pay to put in a home security system — something we never thought was necessary before in our community.
ALL OF THIS has been a direct result of Mike Dunn's attack against my me and my employer. These are supporters of the current board majority who will stop at nothing (clearly), to silence a parent they disagree with.
IN NOVEMBER, IT'S TIME TO FLIP THE BOARD.

- My nonprofit is a scam and fraudulent cover-up to fund my alleged alcoholism and baby's diapers. They sent their friends to attack my nonprofit's page and write fake, negative reviews. (My nonprofit, by the way, has been responsible for providing hundreds of families in the Conejo Valley with basic resources like clothing and baby supplies, Thanksgiving Day meal packages, and operating a free community diaper and wipes bank. We are 100% volunteer-driven nonprofit and a verified 501(c)(3) run by six local moms in the community.)
- I steal money for charities like the American Cancer Society — I've raised more than $6,000 for the organization.
- My husband has threatened the district with gun violence. In fact, the same woman who visited my work also attempted to file a false police report, alleging that I was drunk and had a shotgun. The police department would not take the false police report.
- I have mental and behavioral problems and that I have been held on a 5150 before.
- That CPS should be called on my children because they fear child endangerment.
- Posted pictures of my minor children (8 months and 4 years old), mocking their looks
They've also taken to posting pictures of me that they take without my knowledge, while then attempting to shame me by posting them on the pages. Not to mention, there have been plenty of times where they've just downright started recording me if they run into me. Here's the email from Mike Dunn to my employer. It was four weeks into my maternity leave.
It says:
Scott, I am told that you approve the political activities of Jessica Wiehl (anonymous mommie).
Every time she slanders or libels the school district or a school board member during public comments at a board meeting, I am going to respond that Jessica she works for Mustang Marketing and that you support her opinions.

In response to the threat he sent to my employer, Dunn wrote this to the Acorn, after receiving backlash:
AS A RESULT OF THE CURRENT BOARD MAJORITY'S ACTIONS IN REGARDS TO THIS BEHAVIOR, THEIR TAMPERING WITH OUR LITERATURE CURRICULUM, AND THEIR VIOLATION OF THE BROWN ACT, THE CVUSD HAS MADE NATIONAL NEWS ... and NOT for the reasons you'd hope.

Even the California Dept. of Education CHANGED THEIR ENTIRE ANNOTATION process because they did not agree with how the CVUSD was abusing it for its controversial literature and selection review policy.
That's why Sandee Everett had to amend her poorly constructed policy with 17 pages of amendments. Did I mention she inserted a DECENCY CLAUSE into the policy that states books will be reviewed based on her standards of decency?
Sandee Everett has written that she believes some books just aren't acceptable for society, period. And that is why she has rewritten the curriculum selection and review process.

The American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom wrote a letter to the board to express concern about the proposed policy.
"We believe that identifying books as 'potentially objectionable' and requiring re-approval of materials can only function as a censor's tool that is intended to prejudice opinion and discourage the use of targeted books," James LaRue, director of the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom, wrote in the letter. "Such 'soft censorship' impairs the educational process and denies each student's right to read and learn from complex and challenging texts in preparation for college and career." |

Why do we have a school board majority who ...

Shouldn't our school board be comprised of representatives that prioritize our students? Who listen to and respect all stakeholders — students, parents, teachers and homeowners?
Shouldn't our school board prioritize responsible, fiscal transparency?
Shouldn't our school board be discussing student-first initiatives and programs at board meetings? Not having to cancel public school board meetings to handle lawsuits against them in closed session?
Shouldn't our school board be focused on boosting our enrollment (projected at a decline)?
The contrived controversies and extremist agenda our current board majority has attempted to wage against our district has left our students LAST. Teachers have resigned or retired as a result. Our district's reputation is at risk. They are NOT focused on what they should be, instead monopolizing time and wasting taxpayer money to seriously harm the the quality of education provided by our district.
We must flip the board.
