CVUSD Board Meeting, Feb. 20

If you missed Rocky's public comment tonight at the school board meeting, here's the text:

Mr. Andersen,

After your attempt at apology during last meeting I started to wonder, do you remember Dec. 5, 2016? That is when you nominated Mr. Dunn for board president — that is when you allowed him to wreak havoc on our community. That is when you and Mrs. Everett empowered him to make a mockery of our district. Where is your apology for that? .....

You allowed him to carry out his antics especially behind the scenes as he provoked fellow board members, administrators, teachers and students. Why did you allow him to constantly impose road blocks and detours when it comes to the business of this board? How is that good governance? How does this help improve our students’ education? Where is your apology for the harassing and bullying behavior your supporters have unleashed during board meetings and community speaking engagements? Why did you allow one of your supporters to bash a high school student and her parents during last meeting?

Why have you not addressed the fact that Mr. Dunn, for years, has leaked confidential information discussed at closed session? Why have you not addressed the fact that Mr. dunn harassed parent volunteer and community leader Denise Reader, and how it affected her three children? Why have you not addressed the threatening email Mr. Dunn sent to me about us making love, not war, and how he claimed to be very good at both?

Why have you not addressed the formal complaint I filed against Mr. dunn with the Ventura County Schools Self Funding Authority on Jan. 24, 2017? Why have you not addressed that a six-month long investigation ensued? Why have you not addressed that my complaint appeared as a closed session agenda item noted as "conference with legal counsel” for almost five months straight? During the same time, why did you and Mrs. Everett allow Mr. Dunn to dispute legal advice and use scare tactics and misrepresentations to incite fear with district administrators?

Did you think it is right that Mr. Dunn did not participate in the board governance training late last year? A training that was imposed on this board as a result of my complaint? Did his behavior change? No. Did you do anything about it back then? No. Why do you and Mrs. Everett allow Mr. Dunn to mock our students, parents and teachers? Where was your request to censure him when that was going on during last year’s antics?

You chastise a local blogger and suggest that her valid criticism and commentary equates to bullying, but when it comes to our parent organizations you see no wrong when Mr. Dunn’s foot soldier, a so-called concerned citizen, wreaks havoc on our parent organizations. You and I both know that whenever a school community parent organization or student speaks out against a certain board member your friend is summoned to lash out and begin her tirade of bullying schools, parents and students. She has attacked PTAs, boosters, school site councils, district advisory council and the Conejo Schools Foundation.

Why are you and Mrs. Everett ok with that? Your silence when it comes to your friend's behavior proves that you support this woman as she bullies and harasses parents who generously give of their time and financial support. We get it, you would rather chastise a local blogger for speaking the truth instead of correcting your friend’s obnoxious behavior. By the way, have you provided a written apology to the local blogger or Mustang Marketing? Your silence speaks volumes and your lack of action reveals your truth. If you and Mrs. Everett cared about our teachers, parents and students, you would have censured Mr. Dunn a long time ago. In fact, you would have asked that he tendered his resignation.

Thank you Dr. Connolly and Mrs. Phelps in your attempts to get this board back on track. While it would be nice to finally have this board actually carry out the business of the board, I know his antics will continue, especially with the upcoming election. I’m sure the retaliatory tactics of this board majority will prevail and the attacks against these two women will become the new focus. You will send out your foot soldiers to do your dirty work, gather intel, having them address this board in support of your agenda, harass parent organizations and compile an arsenal of letters to the editor. We’ve watched, we’ve listened — yes we’ve all seen your methods and how you’ve served our students.
